Segun la enciclopedia de Arda:


The -orn element of the word 'huorn' must surely mean 'tree', but hu- is more mysterious. It seems to be connected with the Huorns' power of communication, as Pippin says 'They still have voices, and can speak with the Ents - that is why they are called Huorns...' (The Two Towers III 9, Flotsam and Jetsam). Two Elvish root-words that might possibly be connected here are hûr ('active') and hû ('dog'), but neither of these seem to sit easily with Pippin's words above.


El elemento -orn de la palabra 'huorn' (ucorno) significa seguramente 'árbol', pero hu- es más misterioso. Parece estar conectado con el poder de comunicación de los Ucornos, como Pippin dice: "Aún tienen voces, y pueden hablar con los Ents- por eso se llaman Ucornos...". Dos raíces élficas que posiblemente estén relacionadas son hûr (activo) y hû (perro), aunque no encajan muy bien con las palabras de Pippin.
