Wayne G. Hammond nació en Cleveland, Ohio, y creció en el suburbio de Brooklyn. En 1975 recibió su licenciatura en Filosofía y Letras con Honores del Baldwin-Wallace College, Berea, Ohio, donde se especializó en Inglés.
